Minimalism

music

I admit to being sucked into the subscription world of music (aka Spotify) but I feel like it is being justified given how much new music I have been able to enjoy.

. .

For whatever reason I was hankering for something soothing the other day and often will turn to minimalism music to help scratch to manage the itch. My experience is modest when it comes to minimalist composers such as Steven Reich and Philip Glass.

. .

I found a playlist on Spotfiy called Landscapes: Minimalism. Often these can drone on for me but I was intrigued by Water Dances arranged for two pianos, which was composed by Michael Nyman. So in typical fashion I started digging and found that the performance on Spotify was performed by Katia and Marielle Labeque.

. .

. .

So naturally I’m going to dig and find more information on the performers. I found an interesting article that linked Katia Labeque to Timo Andre. Looking up Timo Andre I found a wonderful performance he recorded of Ann Southam’s Glass House #14.

. .

I have listened to both of those pieces many times and wanted to share theme!
